Art Club

Art Club

The Social Art Club meets at Burton Pidsea Memorial Hall every Thursday afternoon between 2pm and 4pm.

The club is open to anyone who is interested in art and would just enjoy a couple of hours following their hobby. There is no teacher, just a group of people with varying levels of skill who love some ‘me time’ following the art style and medium they enjoy

A small and friendly group with lots of help for those who want support with an art problem.

People can come to the Art Club as suits their diary. Art enthusiasts are asked to bring their own work, equipment etc. There is no joining fee just £3.00 for each morning with a tea/coffee provided.

There is no age limit, though during the school holidays we would expect anyone under that age of 14 to be accompanied by an adult.

Holderness Art Show – 8th to 10th September

Back ground to the Holderness Art Show.

The art show has become a regular feature of the South Holderness art calendar since 2001 and its aim is to provide a platform for both amateur and professional artists to showcase their work. Apart from special guests we ask that all participants to submit only works that are for sale. We usually have a good number of sales over the weekend that the show is held. Whilst our show is mainly staged for ‘paintings’ we do try to have some different aspects of art to interest the visitors and on the preview evening we try to have a live artist creating some art pieces.

We have also over the recent years invited Artwork from the local primary school and Withernsea High School. We have found our visitors over the past years have been very impressed by the quality of the art by our younger artists. This year we are opening a new category of ‘under 16’ and we have in recent years had interest from all over Holderness for younger people submissions.

Over the years we have had many well know artists to open the show Ashley Jackson was our first special host and he returned to revisit the show on our 10th Anniversary in 2011.

Valerie Wood the author is a special friend of Holderness Art Show and on a yearly basis she attends on the preview night to present the Peter Wood Memorial Bowl to a commended amateur artist. This is in memory of her husband Peter who was a keen artist, and both lived in Burton Pidsea for many years.

The show is to be held this year on the 8th, 9th, and 10th September 2023.

The preview evening on the 8th September is timetabled for 7 – 10pm, preview tickets are £10. The venue is The Memorial Hall, Burton Pidsea

The format of the evening is very relaxed. After the official opening by our guest, this year it is Dr Damon Taylor, an ex pupil of Withernsea High School, who is now a senior lecturer in Art and Design in Brighton. We then aim to announce the winner of the ‘Peter Wood Memorial’ prize. Valerie or one of her daughters will be with us to present the prize.

The Hall bar is open for the sale of drinks and there will be a cheese and wine based buffet table.

Our second aim of the show is to raise money for our local charities and encourage individuals in having a go in an aspect of art that interests them.
